Creators of artwork for Block A[rt]

Architecture and art have always gone hand-in-hand. That's why we selected seven young artists from Brno and gave them the opportunity to artistically represent the common spaces of the Block A[rt] project and capture the atmosphere of the building in their original style.

Ivan Svárovský

Graphic designer and illustrator, co-founder of the streetwear brand Cult of the Road, member of the JZD Movement group, and founder of the online shop with author's work “Naive&hungry“.

In a painting called "Neighbours" I wanted to capture the community of residents in a relaxed doodle style. As you walk around, you may find your favourite character - some you may find more likeable, some less so, just like the people you will be living with in the house.

Filip Stejskal

Illustrator, graphic designer, painter, musician and designer. He engages in graphic art of all kinds. In recent years he has been creating original ceramics and painting pictures, which he exhibits in galleries as a member of the art group Hoosty-smoothie.

Painting in the common areas of the stairs - 3rd floor "Love"
I was inspired by Leoš Janáček, who lived part of his life in Brno, and his composition True Love. I would like to highlight the texture of the concrete so that the painting works with it, and also add a piece of text from the song.

Jan
Gruml

His work is analogue in nature - he paints paintings on paper or canvas with a brush, illustrates books, and much more. He regularly draws for the Scout magazine and his characters can also be seen on Barn Brewery beer bottles.

My painting depicts a cubist painter ready to do a still life - I'm referring to the work of Emil Filla, who was one of the most famous Czech cubists, but also to the facade of the house, which is cubist-inspired.

Dalibor Krch

Artist and illustrator whose creative work ranges from author's works, non-profit projects, and book illustrations to board game illustrations. He has also created several studio building designs for the Czech Television.

Painting in the common areas of the stairs - 5th floor "Island"
For me, Block Art is an island, a community, a world unto itself. Because the theme of sustainability and animal wellbeing is close to my heart, I conceived of the painting as an island floating in space, its survivors seeking a better world for themselves. I will be happy if the painting also catches the attention of children, who can colour the image with chalk.

Sára Peková

She is inspired by life, and as she says, none of the art schools she has attended have enriched her as much as the people and stories around her. She sees her work as a way to relax and tap into other worlds of magical realism.

With this painting, I wanted to point out that gender differences are not important. By painting, I would also like to encourage caring for the planet and respecting all people regardless of their gender or skin colour.

Peter Štuller

Graphic designer and creative who works with various forms of visual art such as digital drawing, analogue drawing, illustration, and graffiti /street art. Among other things, he also works with motion design.

Painting in the common areas of the stairs - 7th floor "Labyrinth"
I wanted to create a simple, industrial, yet playful image that is pleasant to look at every day. I was aiming for a design that harmonizes the space and at the same time encourages children and adults to finish it with chalk drawing.

Martina Zachrlová

Designer, dancer and painter. She is mainly involved in painting, where she makes visible the beauty of feminine features. She deals with ethnicity, expression and emphasizes the African motif. In her work she gives a chance to a variety of materials and techniques.

For Block Art, I created a piece called "Chief" - a symbolic protector of a building. With the painting I want to highlight the structure of concrete and organically connect it to the architecture. My intention is that in the "Chief", each inhabitant will find his own face and his own protector.
